Another remarkable rescue shows what is possible when committed partners come together for South Africa’s wildlife.
At a routine roadblock near Beaufort West, South African Police Service officers made a heartbreaking discovery: a tiny, poached pangolin, hidden in a box. Frightened and far from her natural home, the little pangolin was in urgent need of help.
News of her discovery set a rapid chain of action into motion. CapeNature, the Johannesburg Wildlife Veterinary Hospital (JWVH), and the JWVH pangolin team immediately stepped up to provide guidance every step of the way. Veterinary specialists carefully stabilised the fragile infant, ensuring she was ready for the next step of her journey.
Once fit to travel, Impact for Wildlife, #Airlink and Airlink Cargo flew her safely to Johannesburg, where specialist care awaited. Every partner playing a vital role in giving this little pangolin, now named Gugu, a fighting chance.
This rescue is a powerful reminder that when people step up, vulnerable species get the protection they deserve. Together, we can help turn the tide for our wildlife .
